Welcome to Puppy Development
What are puppy classes?
Puppy classes are designed to teach, owner and pup to live in harmony.
Raising a puppy is HARD, so I’m here to help make it easier.
I teach group puppy classes that run for 6 consecutive weeks or I offer 1-1 classes. 1-1 classes can be booked as a pay as you go basis or as a 6 week course, like my group classes.
Puppy classes are all about giving your pup the best start and helping you feel confident as their human starting from day one. These sessions aren’t just “teach-a-sit” lessons, but a full foundation building block for behaviour, trust, and communication.
Here’s what you’ll get:
Reward-based, kind training only — no force, no fear. We use treats, games, praise and lots of encouragement so learning is fun and builds trust.
Experienced, friendly support — I’ll demo, coach you, answer your questions, and help you understand why you do things a certain way.
Small, safe class sizes so every puppy and every owner gets individual attention.
Curriculum that grows with your puppy — classes designed for young pups up to 20 weeks. Each week builds a little more, gently adding challenges.
Focus on real life skills — walking nicely on a lead, calm greetings, vet-handling, practicing settling, self-control, coping with distractions.
Socialisation in a safe and structured way! Meeting other puppies, people, new environments, so your pup learns what’s normal and not scary.
Extra resources to help between sessions — I will be available for questions before and after class and can send out helpful tips and tricks information if you need it!
By the end of the course, you’ll feel more confident, and both of you will be prepared for real-life moments from walkies and playdates to vet visits and new experiences.
And you and your puppy will leave with a gradutation pack including a rosette and certificate!
What to expect in puppy class
Please Do
Ensure your puppy has eaten approximately half of their normal meal before class. This helps keep them motivated without being overly hungry or too full.
Make sure your puppy has had adequate rest prior to class to prevent overstimulation and overtired behaviour.
Bring plenty of high-value treats in a variety of types (soft, smelly, easy to chew), as different puppies are motivated by different rewards.
Use a standard flat collar or well-fitted harness.
Bring a standard lead (approximately 4–6 feet in length).
Arrive a few minutes early to allow your puppy time to settle before class begins.
Clean up after your puppy promptly if accidents occur.
Please Do Not
Do not use slip leads.
Do not use retractable (flexi) leads.
Do not use prong collars, choke collars, or chain collars.
Do not bring noisy toys unless instructed by the trainer (to avoid distractions).
Additional Important Guidelines
Puppies must be healthy and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Please do not attend class if your puppy is showing signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, lethargy, etc.).
Keep your puppy on leash at all times unless instructed otherwise by the trainer.
Allow space between puppies—no on-leash greetings unless specifically permitted.
Children are welcome only if they can remain calm and supervised at all times.
Please silence or minimize phone use during class so you can fully focus on your puppy.
If your puppy becomes overly stressed or reactive, the trainer may suggest a short break for everyone’s safety and comfort.
Please read the class rules
The Venue
In the heart of Kirkham is The William Segar Hodgson Pavilion. As a part of the community the pavilion hosts many other businesses, parties and other events.
I chose this venue because it is spacious, has lots of parking, backs onto a field and is accessible.
The address is Coronation Rd, Kirkham, Preston PR4 2HE, United Kingdom
